In pm. I would appreciate advise on how to respond to a such a question when somebody asks how to do something using a method that is itself causing the problems experienced. If I were working with a colleague and I saw them entering start and end dates I would explain the best practice in entering task information, and entering start and end dates is far from best practice. I have implemented Project Online with Microsoft Gold partners in large portfolios and they have all been consistent on this point.

PS - Surely the answer to the question "How can I ensure that the duration reflects the correct work days for the task" is to enter the start date and expected duration?

With Fixed Duration tasks if you enter the amount of work when you assign resources, Project will calculate the resource's peak units - it will not necessarily match the resource's assignment units that show in either the Gantt Chart View or the Task Form.

Rod Gill. Fixed duration often leads to a world of grief! Since fixed only has any affect when editing and assignment not creating them I recommend staying with fixed units to add resources and then only use fixed duration if you need the duration to stay the same when editing an assignment.

Even then I return tasks to fixed units to prevent further niggling conflicts.
